Which game should you master?
There is an ongoing debate in the world of online poker concerning No Limit Texas Hold’em online and Limit Texas Hold’em. Some newer poker players will say that the differences are so minimal, why debate the matter at all? However, those who play online poker on a regular basis, and have been doing so for years, will all have a pretty strong opinion and will always favor one over the other.
The major difference between the two is of course, the amount of which you are able to bet. Most online Limit Texas Hold’em games will have a set limit for all four of the betting rounds. For example, if you are seated at a $2-4 limit table, the small blind will more than likely be $1 and as a result the big blind will follow at only $2. This means you are now only able to bet or raise $2 pre-flop and only $2 after the flop.
Now, on the turn and river you are only able to bet and raise $4. In limit Texas Hold’em the betting continues in increments of $2 for the first two rounds, and then increases to $4 for the second.
In No Limit Texas Hold’em online games there is a significantly higher chance to win big and there is a lot more opportunity to bluff or play strategically. This is why most serious poker players prefer no limit Texas hold’em online.
The other major differences are the ability to go all in at any point in a game and the limits on the number of raises you may place. Limit Texas Hold’em allows only so many raises and bets, where as No limit Texas Hold’em online allows you to bet and raise whenever, for however much you want.
If you are a beginner looking to start small in the world of online poker, limit Texas holdem may be your best choice. However, if you are in it for the thrill and skill, No limit Texas holdem online is definitely the way to go.
